The interview

Marie-Luise :
Hello and welcome! Thank you for joining us today. My name is Marie Luise, and I'm the Head of Nutrition at Hello Inside. Today, I'm delighted to introduce Eileen, a nutritionist at Medical for Fitness. She'll share her coaching approach using the Hello Inside Coaching Dashboard and Suite. Thanks for joining us today, Eileen! Would you mind telling us a bit about your background and your path into coaching?

Eileen :
Yes, of course! I'm glad I can be here, and thank you very much. My coaching journey didn't begin in the traditional way. I tried out many different jobs and spent a long time searching for the right one. At some point, I started getting involved with fitness and health and became a trainer. After three and a half years, I realized I was becoming increasingly fascinated by nutrition. I started watching videos about it and thought, "This is exactly my thing!" So I studied nutritional counseling, undertook intensive training, and discovered my passion. After graduating, I landed at Medical for Fitness – a fantastic team where I feel completely at home.

Marie-Luise :
That sounds fantastic, and I think it's great that you've found your way into nutrition. As a nutritionist, I know how important that is—especially because everyone has an opinion on this topic. What are the most important insights you've gained over the past few years?

Eileen :
That's a good question. I've often been asked what the takeaway from my studies and experiences is. I'd say variety is key. Many people forget how many different fruits and vegetables there are – or even nuts! It's about eating unprocessed foods and incorporating more plant-based foods into their diet. Another important point is sugar. Sugar is hidden in so many products that many people don't even realize how much they're actually consuming. I think if we focused on that, we'd have fewer health problems, and our blood sugar levels would be more stable.

Marie-Luise :
These are truly exciting findings, especially regarding sugar. At Hello Inside, we use our app to reveal precisely such patterns. How do you specifically use the Hello Inside Coaching Suite and the dashboard in your practice?

Eileen :
Almost all of my clients now use a blood sugar tracker. We always schedule a mid-term appointment to review the data on the dashboard together. What's exciting is that we not only analyze the blood sugar curves, but also the effect of certain foods, drinks, exercise, or stress. I find the ability to enter meal ingredients particularly helpful. This allows us to see which foods trigger specific reactions and compare meal scores. This allows us to address clients individually and provide targeted recommendations.

Marie-Luise :
Super, super exciting. You've already mentioned the topic of blood sugar charts. Are there any other features in the Coaching Suite that you feel have a big impact on your clients?

Eileen :
Yes, absolutely. One of the biggest advantages is that customers can see the impact of their diet in real time. For example, they eat an apple and immediately see what happens to their blood sugar curve. Or they can see whether their morning coffee is having an impact on their levels. This gives them direct feedback. Another big advantage is that customers learn to maintain healthy intervals between meals. Many snack between meals or feel like they constantly need to eat. With the help of the suite, they quickly find out whether their last meal was truly filling or whether it could have been better prepared.

"One of the biggest advantages is that customers can see live how their diet is affecting them. For example, they eat an apple and immediately see what happens to their blood sugar curve. Or they can see whether their morning coffee is having an impact on their levels. This gives them direct feedback."

Marie-Luise :
That sounds like real added value. It's truly fascinating that customers can see for themselves how their habits affect things.

Eileen :
Yes, it motivates them immensely. Especially when they get scores for their meals and days through the app. Nobody wants to end up in the red zone! This automatically leads them to eat more mindfully and try out different tips – for example, drinking a glass of water with apple cider vinegar or taking a walk after a meal. There are so many helpful recommendations in the app that customers enthusiastically accept.

Marie-Luise :
You also touched on the topic of motivation, which I find really fascinating. How has your coaching changed through the use of real-time data?

Eileen :
Coaching has changed enormously. We used to use food diaries, which was very time-consuming. Now, clients enter what they eat and drink directly into the app, often even including approximate amounts. This makes my job easier because I see not only what they eat, but also when. I can also directly address topics like sleep, which often have a major impact on blood sugar. For example, if a client is having trouble sleeping, we look at what they ate or drank in the evening. Alcohol is also clearly visible in the chart.

Marie-Luise :
This is really interesting, especially that you can use so much information right away.

Eileen :
Yes, exactly. The suite automatically maps out many aspects that I would otherwise have to ask about individually. This allows me to start a conversation more quickly and provide targeted recommendations. It's important to suggest small steps to clients – small changes that have a big long-term impact. For example, instead of completely eliminating food, I recommend alternatives. This ensures the change is more sustainable and the clients also enjoy it.

Marie-Luise :
Super cool. You've already mentioned that the suite is sustainable and fun. That brings me to another question: Is there a success story that particularly stands out in your mind, where you would say the suite really helped you give your customers an aha moment?

"There are also the typical cases where someone says, "Oh, that little bit of chocolate a day or that energy drink—that's no problem." But when we look at the graph together, they often look wide-eyed and say, "Oh, so that's what's happening." It helps clients see in black and white how their diet affects them."

Eileen :
Honestly, I can't think of a single specific story—but I can think of countless small successes. These click moments are incredibly common: when clients see what happens when they eat something shortly before bedtime, drink alcohol, eat large portions or foods that are difficult to digest—or even eat nothing at all. We also have many clients who eat too little, and this is beautifully reflected in their blood sugar charts.

There are also typical cases where someone says, "Oh, that little bit of chocolate a day or that energy drink—that's no problem." But when we then look at the graph together, they often look wide-eyed and say, "Oh, so that's what's happening." It helps clients see in black and white how their diet affects them. Many are familiar with the midday slump after a large meal with dessert. Once they can clearly understand that, they'll try to change something on their own.

I find it particularly fascinating how important meal intervals are. When we analyze this, clients immediately see the difference it makes to eat regularly and with a variety of foods. It's about encouraging small changes – and then following up after a week to see what worked better. This regularly leads to aha moments that motivate clients.

"You can also show clients something that's often difficult to grasp in nutritional counseling. With the app, I can show them directly: This is the difference your decisions make."

Marie-Luise :
That's truly impressive. It also speaks to how versatile the suite is. If you had to give the coaches watching this interview one piece of advice about why they should use the suite in their practice, what would you say?

Eileen :
I've already mentioned many points, but for me, the suite is, above all, a tremendous relief. It provides a solid foundation for immediately seeing how clients eat—including how often. Furthermore, you can show clients something that's often difficult to grasp in nutritional counseling. With the app, I can demonstrate directly: This is the difference your choices make.

Sometimes it's like this: If I move a lamp from left to right, I see the effect immediately. But with nutrition, it often takes longer to notice noticeable changes. This makes it difficult for us coaches to show clients how important their decisions are. The suite closes this gap by providing direct visual feedback. That's precisely what makes it indispensable for me.

Marie-Luise :
Super exciting, and I also love the comparison with the lamp – I'll have to remember that. Finally, let me ask you another question: What was the biggest challenge for you when you first used the dashboard and tracked your blood sugar? And how did you overcome it?

Eileen :
I think the biggest challenge was interpreting and reading the data. Blood sugar levels are incredibly individual – every person reacts differently. Of course, there are general recommendations that can be given to almost everyone, but the details are often complex. Understanding it all well and drawing the right conclusions from it wasn't easy at first. But you guys gave me really great support. Through discussions and tips, I became more and more comfortable with it and was able to apply the knowledge directly and pass it on. Whenever I had a special case, I was free to ask questions and received helpful suggestions. It didn't take long until I felt confident, and now I'm doing really well.

Marie Louise :
This is truly valuable. Thank you, Eileen, for sharing this experience with us. It's important to us that our coaches are never left alone. If there are any questions, we're always available. It's also exciting what we can learn from you and your clients—this gives us valuable insights to further develop our app and, in turn, better support you. Together, we can learn from each other and build a community. Thank you for supporting this.

One last question: What advice would you give to coaches who are just starting out with Hello Inside?

"In short: Just get started! You don't have to understand everything perfectly to get started. The data provides a solid foundation, and you'll quickly grow into it."

Eileen :
That's a good question. In short: Just get started! You don't have to understand everything perfectly to get started. The data provides a solid foundation, and you'll quickly grow into it. We regularly offer Zoom calls where we look at charts together – this not only motivates the clients but also helps us coaches better understand what's happening. Sometimes we use charts anonymously to explain to everyone what certain patterns mean. This often sparks interest and shows other clients what's possible.

I think the most important thing is not to let perfectionism hold you back. There are always curves that can't be fully explained—humans are a miracle. Just try things out, gain experience, and ask questions—that way you'll quickly become confident in using the suite.

Marie Louise :
Great, then I say thank you very much, Eileen. Those are beautiful closing words: "Humans are a miracle." Thank you for taking the time and answering all my questions in such detail. Take care!

Eileen :
With pleasure. Thank you very much!
