Why did you want to measure your blood sugar?

Focusing on my own health is already an important and significant part of my daily life, and even before using Hello Inside, I was and still am very conscious about my body, my cycle, and my diet. However, I still regularly experienced moments of fatigue, cravings, or even loss of appetite. Tracking my blood sugar sounded incredibly exciting and interesting to me, and I was hoping for more clarity about myself and my eating and exercise habits.

You've been looking at your blood sugar responses in relation to your exercise sessions . What did you notice specifically?

What I noticed most was that the more exercise I did, the calmer and more balanced my blood sugar curve was throughout the day. My morning yoga routine ensured a consistent balance, and while more intense exercise initially boosted my curve, the exercise helped balance my blood sugar throughout the day. Long walks were also great. They helped me concentrate better, made me feel more alert and fitter, and I could see that in my curve.

Hello Inside also offers a lot of information on women's health. What did you personally notice as a woman when tracking your blood sugar?

I found testing my blood sugar throughout an entire menstrual cycle and seeing how the different phases of my cycle affect it incredibly interesting and helpful. Between my period and ovulation, I noticed that my body was much more tolerant to different foods. During my luteal phase, on the other hand, I noticed cravings, a much more sensitive blood sugar level, and a rollercoaster of emotions and energy. It was really helpful to see which foods were good for me and which I should avoid at this point in my cycle to maintain my energy. With my period, I also experienced the feeling of hypoglycemia. Here, too, monitoring my blood sugar levels helped me keep my blood sugar stable.

What was a personal learning that you particularly remember?

One of my biggest learnings, and the associated change in my eating habits, was becoming aware of how my body reacted to oat products. Oat porridge and oat milk were my daily companions, but they really spiked my blood sugar and, more importantly, caused it to drop again very quickly. The same goes for some types of fruit, which I've cut down drastically on. My realization here was definitely "healthy is not always healthy." What's good for others doesn't mean the same applies to me.

What other insights did you gain?

Above all, it helped me trust my intuition and body sensations even more, and also made me more aware of certain foods and eating habits. On the one hand, it helped me understand what's good to eat and when, and on the other hand, it's also good to have something sweet or high in carbohydrates, and when isn't the optimal time.

What did you like most about Hello Inside?

What I liked best was how easy the app was to use. The overview and direct link to individual meals was super simple and understandable. It's a food diary and blood sugar tracking all in one.

What advice would you give to someone who hasn't tried Hello Inside / blood glucose monitoring yet ?

Maybe you can find someone you can do this with! I was able to do the testing with my colleague, and the exchange really helped us a lot. Seeing how differently we react to foods was also incredibly interesting and insightful. We all need something different.

Would you try Hello Inside again and if so, why?

Yes, I would use HI again. I think it's great for regular awareness-raising to check what my blood sugar is doing every now and then. Especially because our reactions, eating habits, and living conditions are constantly changing. I wouldn't wear a sensor all the time, but I think it's great once or twice a year!
